Dinner and Bowling This Past Weekend!

This weekend my husband and I went to dinner with some of our friends.

We all love Asian cuisine so we decided to go to PF Chang’s. We ordered Sesame Chicken, Wok fired Filet Mignon, and Kung Pao Shrimp. They had family sized portions so we all shared the dishes! Everything was amazing!

After dinner we decided to go bowling at Bowlmor Lanes. We played 3 games and we were all very competitive so it was a good time! Check out our scores!

As you can see in the last picture at the bottom of the screen, they’re telling everyone to leave lol! We didn’t even realize we were there so long, but time flies when you’re having fun right! Haha!

It’s always a great time hanging out with them! Nothing but fun, laughs, and good vibes!

Weekend in Virginia!

I went to northern Virginia for my friend’s welcome back party! We ate at her favorite restaurant called Chevy’s Fresh Mex! I ordered Chicken Enchiladas and my husband ordered Flame Grilled Fajitas! Our food was delicious!

After dinner, we moved the party to their house where we played “What The Meme” which is a pretty fun game when played with a lot of people! A lot of people who came were friends from college so we were all catching up and reminiscing about all the old but good memories we shared!

I was also able to see my little niece while i was here! She’ll be 1 next month! I won’t be able to make it to her birthday party so I’m glad I was able to spend time with her!

Well I definitely needed this little getaway! Here are a few pics from this weekend! Check my personal Instagram for more pictures and videos! Hope you enjoy! 😊

Highlights Of 2017!

So here are some highlights from this year!

My husband and I hit our 2 year wedding anniversary on January 22! Being best friends makes our marriage so much fun!

I do part time event planning and I had the opportunity to run an 8th grade formal event and which was a fun experience!

This summer I was able to visit my college friends in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area! It’s always a good time when we come together!

My cousins and best friends were able to come to NYC to help celebrate my husband’s 30th birthday!

I went to my first natural hair event called in Prospect Park in Brooklyn! That was a great experience to see so many men and women of all different backgrounds who embrace their naturally curly or coily hair!

I had the opportunity to see my favorite music artist Jidenna in concert! I was in the 2nd row closest to the stage so I had a great view! The concert was amazing!

I went ATV riding in Virginia with my husband and in laws which was so fun and I felt super adventurous! Haha!

Pumpkin Carving and cookie baking with my nephews was super fun too!

I had a great thanksgiving with my in laws! And my sister came in town too so we were able to do a lot of fun things together!

Last but not least my parents and sister spent a long, fun week here in NYC for Christmas! I had such a great year and can’t wait to see what next year has in store! 😊

We also sung karaoke and played this game called Pokeeno (which is like Bingo) and I won a bunch of times! Haha 😁

It was so nice spending time with family but also great to catch up with my friends that I haven’t seen in years! Good friends are hard to find and keep days and these are some awesome people! ❤️

How did you spend your Labor Day weekend?

My Trip To D.C. This Weekend!

Unfortunately I found out that my close friend’s mother passed away. My husband and I went down to the DMV (stands for DC, Maryland, Virginia) area this weekend to be a support for our friend and his family.

Our other close friends came into town as well for the funeral. His family was happy and grateful that we were there for them during this tough time. If you have a few seconds, please keep his family in your prayers. Thank you!

We all went to college together but we all live in different places. So because of duties of life and the distance between us, we haven’t seen each other in a few months and it’s been even longer since we’ve seen some of the others. So it was nice that we all got a chance to meet up again! It was like old times, we’re just a little older now! Haha! We’re all starting families, getting promotions, achieving our goals, etc so it was nice to catch up with everyone!

Also 2 of my close friends from college live in Maryland so I was able to visit them! My friend just had a baby a month ago so I was super excited to see them!

Some of my husband’s family members live in Northern Virginia so we went to visit them as well! As you can see we took advantage of being in town and made sure we were able to spend time with everyone!

I thank God for these great people that I have in my life! They are amazing!

Daily Prompt – Relieved

What Makes You Feel ALIVE??!  (Personal Blog)

I asked myself the other day, what really makes me happy? Then I thought I feel alive when I’m happy so what makes me feel ALIVE??!

MUSIC

This is a big one for me! My mother is a dancer and has even danced when she was pregnant with me! So she was constantly listening to songs while rehearsing choreography.

And all throughout my childhood, I grew up with my parents playing music around the house almost ALL the time!

And now I can’t go one day without listening to music!

I’ve been working on improving my coping methods when it comes to rough situations that I go through. And to get me out of a “funk” I’ll turn on my favorite tunes and dance around to uplift my mood and it actually works!

DANCE

My uncle has never called me by my real name, he always calls me “Boogie” because when I was younger, I was always dancing around! I guess I can blame that on mom because dancing is in my genes!

I took ballet, tap, and jazz classes growing up! I remember doing a tap routine to the song “Cruella Deville.” I had the whole outfit: the black and white wig, the red silk rob and black dress with stockings and my cute little tap shoes! I wish I had a picture so I can show you guys but it’s somewhere in my parents house miles away from where I am now! (If I end up finding the pic, then I’ll post it!)

I also was a praise dancer in my church that I attended growing up. My mother was the dance leader so she strives for excellence with the choreography and we were constantly rehearsing our dance routines!

*Above: My mom praise dancing!

Nowadays, almost every time I hear a song that I really like, I’m choreographing a dance routine in my head! And at home, I’m performing that dance routine in front of the mirror! Haha! I don’t care how silly I look, it makes me happy!

FAMILY

Growing up, I moved around from being born in Manhattan, NY (Mount Sinai Hospital) and moving to Rota, Spain –> Virginia Beach, VA –> Chesapeake, VA –> Manama, Bahrain (Middle East) –> and back to Virgina Beach.

So I was never around my extended relatives for very long. We would visit them during the summers and holidays.

I have a little sister who is 8 years younger than I so we couldn’t have the same fun as I did with my cousins who were older or closer to my age.  I absolutely loved hanging out with my cousins! When we get together, we are so silly with each other and I can let loose and be my true self! They were pretty much like my siblings too!

During college, my dad was still in the military at the time. So him, my mom, and sister were living overseas in Naples, Italy for about 2 years. During my summer breaks, I would stay with my aunt and uncle (my relatives live about 2 hours from my campus). They were like my second parents and I was around my cousins all the time since I was staying with them. We did everything together.

We had our disagreements, laughed so hard until we cried, and got in trouble together! With all that, we had the opportunity to bond a lot more than when I was growing up!

Now that I’ve migrated 400 miles away to NYC, it’s very difficult to spend time with my family. Everybody has their own life so sometimes it’s challenging for us to visit each other. We try our best to see each other when we can!

FRIENDS

Being that I moved around a lot, my friend circle was forever changing which was a tough experience for me as a growing teenager. There a very few friends that have kept in contact with me all these years through all of these different places I’ve lived. But I’m so glad for them because I take my friendships seriously. I’m probably the most loyal friend you will ever meet!

I had a little crew while I was in college! There are 5 of us in our crew and through those 4 years, we all grew up as young women and our friendships grew stronger! We went through many crazy and non crazy situations together and we had the best of fun too! It sucks because I live in NYC, two live in Maryland, one in Philly, and one in the Cayman Islands. So we’re all spread out but every time we spend time together, I feel that much more alive!

Above: 5 girl college crew! (plus spouses and cousin) at our friend’s wedding last spring! L to R: Husband, Me-1, 2-Krys, 3-Rocki, 4-Maggie, Kim, 5-Yaya, and Nat.

FOOD

I had to include a little category for food because I absolutely LOVE eating! I mean who doesn’t?! HAHA! I enjoy eating foods from all types of cuisines! My favorite cuisines are Comfort/Soul, Italian, Indian, and Spanish food! Food is so complex that it has so many different flavors that combine into one! Food makes my soul smile and my stomach happy! =)

I hope you enjoyed hearing about the things that make me feel alive!

What makes you feel ALIVE??!

Comfortable and Welcoming!

I believe hospitality is important when you invite guests over to your home.

Whether it’s their first time or third time, your guests should always feel welcome and comfortable spending their time in your home.

Every time I invite people over to my home, they always say that they feel like they’re “at home.” They also say that our home is so welcoming!

Hearing that always makes me feel good because I know that I’m satisfying my guests.

And this is what makes my day! =)

1980’s Themed Birthday Party!

So my mom turned the big 5-0 last year and I threw her an 80’s themed birthday party!

I got lucky and found a bluetooth record player just in time for the party! We borrowed my mother in law’s vinyls.

We had some Michael Jackson, Madonna, Anita Baker, Motown, Lionel Richie, Luther Vandross, and Prince to name a few!

L to R: Uncle, Cousin, Mom

My uncle and cousin were coming as Run DMC and my mom was an 80’s dance teacher (since she’s been a dance teacher for decades!)

Family friend (bottom right) and the rest are cousins

They were having a blast playing Foos Ball, Ms. Pacman and Bad Cats Pinball game!

My uncles: Run DMV and Nicky Barnes. My look was inspired by 1980s Whitney Houston!
L to R: (Big) Little Sister, Me, Dad, Mom, Hubby
My aunts and cousins
My hubby with our college friends
Whenever my family gets together, we always have a good time!

We had a sing a long battle to some old school favorite songs from the 80’s. That was fun!

We played the game “Heads Up” which is an app that’s basically like the game charades. Everybody was getting involved, even the ones who don’t normally play games! If you want a good party game, download the Heads Up app! It’s super fun!

My parents live in Ohio and my relatives live about 45 minutes away. And we also had college friends and my NY fam join us too! I’m just glad that everyone came out! It definitely was a party to remember!
