Fun Filled Weekend In NYC!

My little sister came up from Ohio for a few days to visit my husband and I here in NYC before she starts her life in college!

The Statue Of Liberty is right behind us!

She wanted to go on the Statue Of Liberty tour but the tours don’t start until November! Instead, I took her to Battery Park all the way at the bottom of Manhattan! She could at least get a glimpse of the Statue Of Liberty plus the view of the water was amazing!

I cooked dinner which consisted of Honey Glazed Salmon Steak with Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta with Garlic Bread! Yum!

I took a quick snapshot of my food so you guys could see what I cooked before I devoured it lol. So excuse the bad lighting!

We went to The Museum of Natural History and we saw a lot of interesting animals and facts about some that I never knew!

On the Metro North our way to the museum!

Here are a few pictures of what we saw at the museum! The animals looks so realistic!

After that, we went walking through Central Park while enjoying the beautiful weather!

Ancient Egyptian Obelisk

I was a little bummed at first because the forecast in PA said it was supposed to be rain and thunderstorms but it actually turned out to be a beautiful day!

We went to Camelback Mountain Resort Waterpark in Tannersville, PA which was about a 2 hour drive for us. We arrived close to when they opened the waterpark to avoid the crowd. It was bright and sunny with beautiful trees surrounding us! But the only bad thing was that it was so windy and when we finished each ride, we were freezing! As the time went by, the teneperature began to rise so it wasn’t that bad anymore. But outside of that, we had a blast and I felt like a kid again! 😁

Shrimp Basket with a nice cold Heineken!

At the end of the day, we decided to go to the movies and see Kidnap starring Halle Berry. That movie had us on the edge of our seat pretty much for the whole movie! It is a must see for sure!

I’m so glad she came to visit! We were able to spend some quality time together which was great and well needed! Can’t wait until she comes back again! ❤️

Birthday Weekend in NYC!

My husband’s birthday was on June 30th and he finally hit the big 3-0! We had a fun filled weekend!

We had breakfast at a local spot in the South Bronx. We were running a few errands in the area before heading to Mountain Creek Waterpark!

Left was my sandwich: Bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with jelly…Right was hubby’s: Bacon, lettuce, and onion sandwich with BBQ sauce! 😋

We just finished at the Waterpark and are now enjoying our Strawberry lemonade and Rainbow Italian ices!

My cousins and friends had come into town and my mother n law was super nice to cook us all dinner that night. We had baked ziti, baked chicken, rice and beans, and garlic bread. It was so delicious! And we sung Happy Birthday to the birthday guy!

Now we’re on our way to Bubba Gump Shrimp in Times Square!

“Run Across America” Sampler Appetizer – grilled shrimp, mama blue’s fried shrimp, seafood hush puppies, spicy chicken strips and bubba’s far out dip and homemade tortilla chips! and a Frozen Coronita!
“I’m Stuffed!” Shrimp – Large Shrimp with Crab stuffing, baked in garlic butter and Monterey Jack cheese served with Jasmine rice!
My beautiful cousins to the left and my gorgeous childhood friend to my right (been friends since the 5th grade!)

Later that night, I threw a party for Danny and invited our friends and family over!

Our guests were playing beer pong, King’s Cup which is a drinking card game, Head’s Up and other games as well!

My husband wanted pernil (Spanish style pulled pork) so I cooked it for the first time! His mother makes really good pernil so she gave me instructions on how to make it and it turned out amazing! There was no more pernil left haha!

I also made Buffalo Chicken dip for the first time and that was totally fine too so I’m guessing everyone like it!

Sorry that the food pictures look so rough. I took a quick snap shot of everything but I wanted you guys to see all that we had at the party!

Pernil (Spanish style pulled pork), rice and beans
Baked ziti
Buffalo Chicken Dip
My husband’s famous pasta salad
Hubby’s Ice Cream Cake!

Unfortunately I didn’t take any more pictures because I was caught up in the fun!

It was a great weekend and I’m glad that my husband enjoyed his birthday weekend! =)

NYC Driving!

Moving to NYC 4 years ago, I knew there were going to be a lot of changes and adjustments.

One of the biggest adjustments I had to make was my driving methods. I feel that I am a responsible and careful driver. But living in NYC, I realize that (mostly) everybody else around me is the total opposite!

These people drive wrecklessly like they’re fighting to have the road or lane to themselves!

You get cut off without warning, people make decisions without using their signal lights, and they tailgate you so no one else will cut in front of them!

So the motto that I’ve stuck with is

“I drive to survive!”

And by following this motto, I’ve been able to survive on the road despite all the crazy drivers! Haha!

What It Feels Like to Have 100 Followers!

I’ve been blogging for about 2 months now! I published my first blog on Feb 21 on 3 Tips To Eat and Still Lose Weight!

I initially started writing because I experience anxiety quite a bit. I started journaling which actually helped me to be calm and helped me with clearing my mind.

Then I thought, “why not start blogging? I can probably help someone who is in the same boat as me!” So that’s how I got started! And I haven’t looked back ever since.

I noticed that my favorite things to write about are recipes that I’ve tried, do it yourself natural remedies, and reviews of the best restaurants that I’ve been to.

Here are some of my favorites:

*Story of My Life!

I never knew that there was a whole other world out here! And that world is the “Blogging World!”

When you’re a blogger, you interact with so many different people from all over the world and I love that!

I’ve learned a lot in these 2 months that I’ve been blogging and am still learning!

I hope and pray that I continue to put out advising and inspiring posts that’ll touch the heart of those all around the world!

Thank you all for your support and for following! =)

My Family Visits NYC!

My parents, sister, aunt, uncle, and granny cane into town from PA/OH to come visit my husband and I.

My mom told me that they wanted to visit a few places in Manhattan but when they arrived on Friday, everyone was super tired. So we ended up ordering food from an Italian restaurant up the street from my apartment.

It was nice to be able to relax with them. We watched this movie called Central Intelligence starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It was hilarious!

Saturday, I took them to a popular shopping area in the South Bronx where there are a whole bunch of stores on 3rd Ave. My family loved it and bought so many things! I ended up buying a few things too! =)

Some shops on 3rd Ave!

Later that night, we had a pot luck dinner at my place and game night! My mom’s family is from NYC so her brothers and niece came out to join us for the night.

L to R: Baked Ziti by mom n law, Lemon Garlic Chicken and BBQ Bacon Chicken made by me, potato salad, and Pasta Salad made by my husband!
Back row L to R: Sweet Plantains, Spanish Rice, Spanish Rice, White Rice…Front Row L to R: Beef Stew, Chicken Stew, Potato Salad, Beans

My mother n law and a few of her family members joined us as well.

We played this game called “Heads Up” which is super fun! We also played Jenga
which was harder than I thought because you need to have a steady hand when moving those blocks around!

My family and I playing Jenga!

Sunday morning, my family headed home.

It was so refreshing to have my family spending time together because it’s been a while since we’ve all gotten together. It was such a pleasure and can’t wait to do it again! I love my family =)

My family!

Virginia to New York City

I’m originally from the south (Southern Virginia), where everyone drives, it’s easy flowing traffic, so much land and space, people are easy going, and people are friendly and polite!

I moved to The Big Apple NYC over 4 years ago and I felt like such an outlier when I first moved here!

Everyone took public transportation, there’s ALWAYS some kind of traffic, everything is so compacted, no breathing room, people are always in a hurry (when sometimes it’s not even necessary), and some people (not all) can be aggressive and not very polite.

I didn’t fit in with the NYC crowd, it was overwhelming at first. But then I grew accustomed to the way things work here.

4 years later, I can call myself a “New Yorker” now but I still feel like an outlier at times.

It would make things a lot easier if my family lived here or close by so we could visit each other more often than two to three times a year. (They live in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania).

But it’s all good. I’m a big girl and have been making the best out of my situation! =)

Max Brenner – Calling All Chocolate Lovers in NYC

I first heard about this place from my coworkers who were raving about this restaurant that is known for its chocolatey desserts! So they really persuaded me to go to this oh so famous Max Brenner Restaurant because I mean we all love a good satisfying chocolate dessert right?! (well, most of us LOL!)
My husband and I went to the city to check the place out. When we got there, it was super crowded! It was very popular. We didn’t have a reservation, so we waited for like 20-30mins before we were seated (but that was expected since it was a Saturday, in the summer, in one of the most popular cities).

They had a bar towards the front of the restaurant, 2 floors where you can be seated and enjoy your meal, and the design and style of the restaurant is pretty fun and interesting! You’re surrounded by anything and everything involving chocolate!

You can walk in and just buy chocolate desserts if you choose not to eat there. MB (Max Brenner) also has a chocolate shop where you can buy a variety of anything chocolate along with their signature cups/towers that they present your drink or sauce in at the restaurant.

At Max Brenner, there is a wide variety of chocolate treats from pastries, milkshakes, hot chocolate hug mugs, chocolate shots, waffles, crepes, cakes, cookies, ice cream, and even chocolate pizza!

One thing I found interesting that I saw that people ordered were the Chocolate Fondue Towers! You are provided with a mini grill to roast your treats and then dip into the gooey goodness of chocolate sauce! The next time I go back, I will be getting this Fondue Tower!

MB also has regular food too! Burger, fries, salmon, pasta, mac n cheese, pizza along with beer, wine, and cocktails! (This is making me hungry just writing about it! YUM!)

I ordered the Brenner Burger with waffle fries paired with a nice tall Halva Milkshake! My husband ordered some type of sandwich (I don’t remember) and a nice tall beer! The burger and fries were pretty good, but that Halva Milkshake was so delicious!!! (as you can tell by the empty cup pictured above) It was so rich with flavor but the chocolate flavor was not overpowering at all! We enjoyed our experience there and will be going back sometime soon!

When you get a chance, try stopping in to Max Brenner to enjoy a nice meal and a bunch of awesome chocolate treats!

If you’ve been there before, let me know how your experience went!

Beer Lovers in NYC!

My husband and I were given a Groupon from my brother in law for this place called Yonkers Brewing Company. My hubby loves his beer so he was definitely interested in this place! Haha!

It’s a bar in Yonkers, NY (Westchester County) that is right off the Hudson River. And we had a really nice experience!

This is a place that offers a variety of handcrafted beers that were brewed in Yonkers.

They offer Brunch and Dinner and the food is pretty good too! The waiters are friendly and attentive; the atmosphere is really chill and makes you feel comfortable.

Another interesting thing about Yonkers Brewing Co. is that they have a container full of board and card games available for guests to play! I haven’t seen this before, so this added a nice touch to their bar!

If you’re a beer lover and/or you love to eat, I would recommend Yonkers Brewing Co.!

If you get a chance to visit, let me know how your experience went! Cheers!
